Let the Music Speak ! ...
The youngest of three children born in (Colombo) in 1988, Sachintha De Silva is a graduate of the University of Visual and Performing Arts (Sri Lanka) and the founder of Beat Drummers. He was born in to a performing arts family where both his parents were professional dancers and dance instructors. As a little boy Sachintha enrolled in his father’s dance academy and trained himself extensively. Discovering his love for drumming Sachintha studied traditional drumming under the guidance of Mr. Prasantha Rupathilake and thereafter he joined the renowned dancer and drummer Ravibandu Vidyapathi at the age of 14 to excel his skills in dancing and drumming.
After conducting in-depth research on a variety of percussion art forms, Sachintha made the decision to experiment with African drums. Sachintha's mother was a pillar of strength and she bought him his first drum kit, and he now has a collection of more than 100 drums and instruments. Sachintha makes the imperative career decision in 2008 to form his own percussion ensemble, whose members all stepped forward with their own drums and instruments and are all students of his very own academy. As much as he is a passionate percussionist, Sachintha also loves the Art of Drum Making. He went on to produce three new drums on his own, adding to his already impressive list of accomplishments.
2011 saw the debut performance of Sachintha and the Beat Drummers, which was a big success. Since then, there has been no looking back. The Band had performed at a variety of local and international festivals, including the ICC World Cup, the World Percussion festival representing Sri Lanka and IIFA (International Indian Film Academy) Awards. Today the Beat Drummers have gone on to be one of the leading percussion ensembles in Sri Lanka.
Celebrated as an outstanding percussionists and as a much sought after percussion teacher he continues to inspire young talent through his Percussion and Music school. Sachintha is determined to contribute to the world of music, arts, and culture through his work and by introducing talented individuals to the industry.
